1. Inspiring Change
Eagle Wing Tours is proud to be the first whale watching company in Canada to become carbon neutral, join 1% for the Planet, and initiate a $2.00 per person Wildlife Fee, leading to a Tourism Industry of Canada Sustainability Award in 2014.
2. Supporting Non-ProfitsThey have donated over $142,000 to not-for-profits in the past 4 years to support whales and marine wildlife research on southern Vancouver Island. In addition to ongoing support for the Vancouver Aquarium Wild Killer Whale Adoption Program, Eagle Wing has recently partnered with both the Ocean Wise and Seafood Watch programs to help educate guests about sustainable seafood and healthy oceans.
3.Efficient New BoatTheir newest, larger boat offers greater comfort as well as reducing each passenger’s carbon footprint by 39%.
4. Songhees Nation partnership Eagle Wing has recently partnered with the Songhees Nation, providing transport to Chatham Islands to assist with habitat restoration. This has led to the development of Victoria’s only First Nations Cultural Tour of the Salish Sea.
5. Leaders in SustainabilityEagle Wing Tours believes that sustainable tourism happens from both the top down and the bottom up. It’s about leadership as well as employing passionate people who understand the risk of doing nothing. They are deeply committed to sustainable eco-tourism at every step of the way, through community leadership, awareness and education, and a personal dedication to the stewardship of the Salish Sea.
Co-owner Brett Soberg has noticed that guests book with them because of their sustainability efforts and the organizations they support, including being certified Gold from Sustainable Tourism.
