Tell us a bit about your business. What makes you different?

Anupaya Cabin Co. is an immersive wilderness retreat, designed to help you experience the rest and respite that nature has to offer. We believe in the immense healing power of nature to help counterbalance the constant stimulation and hyper-connectivity we all experience in our day-to-day lives, reminding us that we are not just in nature, but a part of it.

Why is sustainability important to you/your business?

We started Anupaya because we wanted to create a brand with a higher purpose. We believe that business has the potential to create lasting, positive change in the world and we wanted to create an offering that doesn’t just chase the bottom(less) line. Instead, we’ve chosen to align our business and our vision – to the best of our abilities – with the higher goal of working towards protecting and preserving our wild spaces while creating a beautiful wilderness escape for our beloved guests.

Why did you join GreenStep Sustainable Tourism?

Because we are committed to creating real change in the world. We believe, as business owners, we need to hold ourselves to higher ethical standards in environmental performance, transparency, traceability, and sustainability. And Sustainable Tourism is leading the way.

What sustainability related projects, policies or initiatives do you most want travelers to know about?

We have composting systems in all of our cabins, that go right back into our permaculture vegetable gardens, which our guests are welcome to sample from and enjoy. We have planted a food forest, have goats and chickens and collect rainwater to feed our gardens. We encourage wildlife habitats to flourish by having birdbaths and birdhouses and prohibiting the use of any pesticides and herbicides and plant only native species on our land.

What are some goals and/or actions you plan to take in the future to further increase the sustainability of your business?

We plan to provide bicycles for our guests to enjoy and to encourage less reliance on driving while staying at Anupaya.
